JACKSONVILLE BREAKS INTO TOP 50 IN TV MARKETS

Jacksonville is now a Top 50 TV market, according to the latest data published by Nielsen Media Research.

Jacksonville moved up from 52nd to 50th among the nation's television markets as the number of television households in the area rose by about 15,000 in the past year to 639,110, Nielsen reported last week.

Jacksonville moved up in part because of the loss of homes in the New Orleans market, which fell from 43rd to 54th. Jacksonville also moved past Providence, R.I., which remained at 51 but lost 1 percent of its TV households in the past year.

At Thursday's hearing in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Jacksonville, Funk also approved an objection by Winn-Dixie to the amount of taxes assessed by three taxing authorities in Louisiana. By approving Winn-Dixie's objection and lowering the amount of taxes owed, the action will save the company about $750,000 a year, Busey said.
