Real Estate Agents Partner with Elections Supervisors

Supervisors of elections and real estate agents from Clay, Duval, Nassau, Putnam and St. Johns counties launched "Move the Vote," a public and private partnership with the Northeast Florida Association of Realtors to register voters.

"When people move either into the community or within one of our counties, they need to register or update their existing registration," said Barbara Kirkman, supervisor of elections for Clay County. "That's why we thought it would be perfect to partner with the Realtors. It reminds people immediately about registering and provides them with the application to do so."

Realtor offices in the five counties will have voter registration applications in specially designed containers and offer voter materials to home buyers as part of their closing.

"This is just the beginning," Kirkman said. "We're starting it as a pilot in our five counties and will bring it to both our state associations to roll out for the next election cycle."
