Police Raid Finds a Cannabis Farm

A cannabis farm was uncovered by police when they raided a house in search of stolen property.

Officers from the core response team based in Stanley executed a search warrant at a rented house in School Terrace, South Moor, on the outskirts of the town.

The warrant had been sought to allow police to search for property stolen during a burglary in the area.

When they entered the terraced, two-bedroom property they found a purpose-built space had been set aside in the loft for the cultivation of cannabis.

A Durham police spokesman said: "Ten plants, which judging by their size appeared to be around two months' old, were seized ( along with a timer, and heating and lighting equipment.

"When fully mature, each plant has a potential street value of up to pounds 1,000."

The 25-year-old female occupant of the house was arrested on suspicion of being involved in the cultivation of a controlled drug.

She has been interviewed and released on police bail pending further inquiries. …
