Andy's Geared Up for a Cracking Good Ride

Judging from the snores on the bus transferring the Marie Curie Great 500 team from Strzelin to Lodz ( the cycling is starting to take its toll.

About 40 people are cycling for six days from Prague to Warsaw in a bid to raise thousands of pounds for the charity.

They are among hundreds taking a variety of different routes of varying difficulty ( but all of which end in Warsaw.

Each day the participants rise at 6am and shuffle downstairs to eat their breakfast of salami, cheese and bread before stumbling out on to the cobbled streets to get back on their bikes.

Yesterday, they peddled through potholed lanes and past fields of potatoes for about 63 kilometres before being transferred by coach for a further 240 kilometres to Lodz.

Andrew Frost, 42, of Tweedy's Buildings in Ryton, Gateshead, is one of those enjoying the challenge of the tour.

He said: "It's fantastic crack, I'm glad I have come by myself as I am enjoying talking to different people and meeting all the many characters we have with us. …
