With younger people turned off voting, Labour councillors in Sunderland decided they needed to be more up-to-date.

So they came up with a slick new website, which they say shows how the party "responds to a growing interest amongst e-savvy voters".

Unfortunately, the not-so-savvy councillors included a map of Sunderland based on electoral ward boundaries which became obsolete in 2004.

Obsolete wards such as Central, Eppleton and Thornholme are included, while new polling districts Redhill, Doxford and Millfield are nowhere to be seen.

The mistake comes despite the website describing itself as "a comprehensive guide to the Labour Party in Sunderland".

Visitors are told: "Here you will find up-to-date news and articles about what's happening in Sunderland. These pages will be updated regularly, so don't forget to keep visiting to make sure you get the latest news."

The error has not gone unnoticed by their political opponents, who seized on the chance to poke fun at the city's ruling group. …
