Wilson Stunned by Pool's Slump

Danny Wilson admits there's a big question mark against his squad after this defeat. It was more than a defeat, it was surrender. Hartlepool weren't just bad, at times they were awful, writes Arthur Pickering.

After watching a team unbeaten in the last four games gift-wrap the points to Shrewsbury, it's no wonder the Pool boss found it difficult to explain

"I'm frustrated, confused and surprised," he said. "They've inflicted that on me, and to the fans, in 90 minutes. The team that has played for the last five or six games, the one that beat Mansfield in midweek, went missing. We never got our game going, we lost most of the challenges and the fact that the 50-50 balls went in their direction puts a big question mark against us."

Pool have looked a lot better lately after their shaky start but they were worse than ever in this game. They started badly and gave away an own goal, rallied but failed to make it count, then collapsed with a second-half display that will dump them in non-league football if they reproduce it too often. …
