BIG was beautiful at Richard Nicoll's second solo London Fashion Week show - at least when it came to the outsized polka-dot prints and oversized silver buttons.

The London-born, Australianraised designer, 29, appeared to have taken Minnie Mouse as the inspiration for his latest look.

Grey spotted knickers, masculine tailored jackets, baggy pleated trousers and crisp white shirts topped off with jaunty straw boaters all added up to a strong, if sometimes rather unwearable, statement for next spring and summer.

The show was in a specially constructed tent in the middle of Holland Park - thanks to sponsor Topshop - and attracted a crowd that included model Lizzie Jagger, designer Roland Mouret, actor Rhys Ifans and Vanity Fair's Elizabeth Saltzman.

Nicoll, a St Martin's School of Art MA graduate and former Fashion East star, sent out a top model line-up that included Lily Cole, Irina Lazareanu and Tanya Dziahileva.

His offbeat mix of draped dresses and baggy tailoring was offset by the occasional sheer blouse over a matching chain-strapped bra top - all in grey, white and orange. …
