It sure was nice receiving the call recently to meet at the Nassau Neighbors office with my Smackdown colleagues, Eric and W.D. The real journalists called this meeting under the pretense of taking new mug shots for the upcoming season. I think it was for the wise-guy entertainment and collegiate fashions.

W.D. was fashionably late, Eric walked in wearing orange rubber crocs, like he just left the dorm showers. And I showed up in my best tractor wear, my Georgia cowboy hat and boots.

After pushing the Georgia/Florida wheelbarrow around the office and out onto Centre Street, it didn't take long for the smack talk to begin. Just outside, a young lady in a pink shirt started some Gator smack with Eric. Smiling, I thought I had some help, but my pleasure was quickly crushed as she started saying blasphemous things about my beloved Dawgs. As she turned around I noticed a "T" on front of her shirt. Not to be outdone, Eric tagged me in and I retaliated with "Is that T on your shirt for Tennessee?" So then I ask if pink was their new team color after last season? She left mad after that, dang it!

OK, back to football. It has been a long, hot, grueling summer. After months of anticipation and talking college football, in just a few days the Dawg days of fall will be here. I'll be packing all the red and black essentials and driving north from behind enemy lines to the Promised Land and reuniting with 92,746 of my closest friends.

Georgia fact: Georgia is ranked fifth nationally in Division I-A attendance.

The Dawgs have a favorable schedule for another SEC championship run this year, with the addition of both Mississippi teams from the West and Kentucky and Vandy in the East. But we still have our most heated rivals of South Carolina, Florida, Tennessee and Auburn all eyeing that SEC trophy and, as always, the Dawgs must not overlook those pesky Yellow Jackets, who can ruin any picnic.

The Dawgs will open the season against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers from the Gateway Football Conference. …
