A victim of kind-hearted passers-by.

Fifteen-year-old Rachel Martin's Shetland pony has died because strangers have been feeding him.

Now Rachel and her mum Julie, who runs a stable, are warning people not to feed the horses.

Cuddles, a four-year-old Shetland pony, had been happily running around a field last Wednesday, but had to be put down two days later.

He had been given food that lodged inside his stomach and caused poisonous toxins, resulting in him developing colic.

Rachel, who was given Cuddles as a birthday present in January, is devastated.

The teenager, who suffers from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, said: "Cuddles was my soul mate. He was the best birthday present and I loved him.

"I spent a lot of time with him. He was very special and it's very upsetting that he has gone."

Julie, who looks after 13 horses at the stables behind Brookland Terrace, New York, North Tyneside, had put up signs telling people not to feed the horses. …
