Boro chairman Steve Gibson has revealed that the club's talented teenage winger Nathan Porritt was also offered to Newcastle United by under-fire agent Peter Harrison.

Gibson said that Boro got wind of it and his Newcastle counterpart Freddy Shepherd was approached by Boro chief executive Keith Lamb to end any interest in the then 15-year-old, and agreed immediately.

The FA and the Premier League have launched an investigation into the BBC Panorama programme 'Undercover: Football's Dirty Secrets', in which Harrison was filmed discussing a possible move to Chelsea or Liverpool for Porritt without Boro's knowledge.

Harrison was shown offering Porritt to representatives of the two clubs and also talked about another meeting he claimed to have had with the Magpies concerning the England youth player.

Gibson, whose anger is directed at the agent rather than the three clubs, said: "We got wind of Nathan being offered to Newcastle, but the conversation was at a fairly low level. …
