Siberski Rues the Two That Got Away

Antoine Sibierski says Newcastle United had already done the hard part against Everton before seeing two points snatched away from them at St James' Park, (writes Lee Ryder).

The Frenchman replaced goalscorer Shola Ameobi early in the first half but could only watch in horror as Tim Cahill wiped out the lead with a free header.

Sibierski has only tasted defeat once in the his first four games for the club but failed to get off to a winning start on his home debut. "We had done the hard part by scoring first against Everton, that was the most difficult thing we had to do and the most important," he said.

"But we have then gone and conceded a very bad goal, you cannot concede goals like that at this level.

"It was free header at the far post and it was a mistake. We have to see why we are doing that and we cannot afford to do it again.

"We are very, very disappointed because we should have picked up three points.

"Even though Everton have done well this season we don't feel that 1-1 at home is the sort of result we should have finished with. …
