Week ending September 22

Border Livestock Exchange Ltd to week ending September 22 marketed 115 prime cattle and 6,035 prime sheep.

The company saw record numbers of sheep marketed thus far this season. As indicated last week, signs of improvement in trade were realised with top quality heavy lambs selling to 245p and pounds 60.03 Calroust. Standard weight lambs (15 ( 21kg) sold to 250p and pounds 52.50 Hassendean and Quixwood for Texel x and to 245p and pounds 51.45 Blythbank, Crookston, Edlingham Demesne, Langton Lees, Bassendean, Wingates Moor, Harehead and Raecleughhead; 245p and pounds 49.00 Bowland Estates. Suffolk x to 245p and pounds 51.45 Easter Deans and to 245p and pounds 50.23 Fawside and Mitchelston. Other Texels to 240p and pounds 50.40 Woodhouse, Blackcastle, Moorlaws, Chatton Park, Roddam Home Farm, Howden and Park Farm, Alnwick; 240p and pounds 49.20 South Riccalton and Coldrife; Suffolk x to 235p and pounds 49.35 Kirkley Hall, Low Trewhitt, and Bowerhouse. Lleyns 235p and pounds 47.00 Hundalee. Mules to 230p and pounds 48.30 Redesdale and A & H Farming. Cheviots to 240p and pounds 50.40 Stagehall. All sheep are sold haulage free. Organic lambs sold to 310p and pounds 58.90 Morrel Hirst; 303p and pounds 63.63 Greystone House whose consignment averaged pounds 58.70; 300p and pounds 58.50 Blueburn.

Cast ewes to 110p per dead kilo Garretshiels; 100p Goswick. Black Faced to 90p Wark Common.

Cattle trade remains firm, particularly for quality, well finished heifers, which sold to 216p and pounds 737 Springhill, Seahouses. Prime steers sold to 224p and pounds 766 Newlands. Young bulls sold to 219p and pounds 816 Harwood-on-Teviot and 215p and pounds 713 Lilburn Estates.By anna lognonne

John Swan Limited sold 178 clean cattle,68 cows, 4,440 lambs and 1,643 ewes. The 86 bullocks averaged 129.3p per kg, -1.5p on the week, and sold to 151p and 963 gross. The 80 heifers averaged 128.6p per kg, +0.6p on the week, and sold to 152p and 892 gross. The 12 young bulls averaged 117.7p per kg, -7.1 p on the week, and sold to 132p. The 68 beef type cows averaged 71.8p per kg, and sold to 99p.

The 4,440 lambs averaged 108.5p per kg, +4.1p on the week, and sold to 122.6p (pounds 57.50). The 1,643 ewes averaged pounds 28.91 and sold to pounds 57.00
