Blyth Spartans hit the FA Cup trail tomorrow looking to erase the memory of last season's final qualifying round replay defeat at Chasetown, (writes Jeff Bowron).

It was a costly setback for the Spartans as the Staffordshire minnows raked in a six-figure sum following their televised clash with Oldham.

Blyth travel to mid-table UniBond Premier Division side Burscough in this season's second qualifying round with Graham Fenton, Gareth Williams and Chris McCabe unavailable.

The trio are all at weddings leaving Blyth to reorganise in defence and midfield as both Williams and McCabe played in last week's 3-2 defeat at Worcester City.

Assistant manager Fenton said: "The defeat at Chasetown was the low point of last season and we would have fancied our chances of beating Oldham at Croft Park.

"It was a case of what might have been and we want to go one or two rounds further this season as we need a good Cup run. …
