A man was taken to hospital following an accident on a road which was piloted for traffic calming measures just days earlier.

Calls for safety improvements on Blair Avenue in Ingleby Barwick have been ongoing for two years amid fears for the safety of school children at Myton Park Primary School.

In response, Stockton Council decided to pilot traffic-calming measures on the road between September 11 and 18.

But just days after the tests were completed, two cars collided.

Cllr Lee Narroway witnessed the accident just after 6.30pm on Wednesday.

He said a car was parked on the side of the road, creating an obstruction for passing motorists.

"Another car attempted to overtake it, causing a serious head-on crash," he said. "All of the emergency services were in attendance and one of the drivers was taken to hospital.

"I've been campaigning for traffic calming on this stretch of road for the last 18 months hoping to prevent this. …
