Albert Luque will give himself until the January transfer window before deciding whether to quit Newcastle United.

The out-of-favour Spanish international responded in superb fashion this week after finding himself in the reserves at Wrexham to face Liverpool, firing in two fine strikes in the 4-1 win.

Luque, who smashed in over 50 goals in La Liga, is desperate to re-discover the form that made him such a big hit in Spain for Deportivo la Coruna and Real Mallorca, but despite United's limited options in attack, the Barcelona-born player has struggled to adjust to Premiership life.

The forward cost Newcastle pounds 9.5m from Depor and will tomorrow represent his native Catalan side against a Basque XI at the Nou Camp in a friendly for charity.

French outfit Bordeaux failed in a late bid to sign Luque on transfer deadline day in August, but there are said to be one or two clubs monitoring his situation.

Indeed, cash-strapped Real Mallorca, his former club, would love to see him back on loan. …
