A dad who "eats, sleeps and drinks football" has been nominated for special praise.

When Frankie Laine's son Lewis was born, the Middlesbrough dad hoped the youngster would share his passion for fishing.

But Lewis, now 10, had other ideas - he loved football. So Frankie switched his focus from fishing to football five years ago and even qualified as a coach.

"I've always been interested in fishing, but my son hated it," said Frankie, of Hemlington.

"I was really impressed by the coaching he was offered at Marton Football Club, but it made me want to give it a go myself and try coaching."

He has FA level one and two coaching qualifications and is working towards level three.

"My drive is watching the kids develop and seeing them progress," he said.

Frankie is development coach with Marton Football Club, looking after the club's under-7 and under-11 teams who compete in the Teesside Junior Football Alliance.

"They play in Division One and it's great to see the kids develop. …
