Area Music Scene Gets Recorded in Pair of Films

You'll soon be able to check out the Northeast Florida music scene in two new movies - one on TV next week, another in the Florida Theatre next month.

Music Farmers is a look at the scene at two related music festivals that draw thousands to the Suwannee River near Live Oak each year: Suwannee Springfest and Magnolia Fest. It'll air on WJCT TV-7 at 10 p.m. Thursday. It's an hour-long version of a film produced by Digital Video Arts of Jacksonville; a longer version, with more music, will be for sale soon.

It's a laid-back look at the happy crowds and performers at the annual festival, including the Duhks, Peter Rowan, Donna the Buffalo, Bela Fleck and the late Vassar Clements, a long-time regular on the Suwannee.

Grind 2 Shine is a documentary on the Duval County hip-hop scene by local filmmakers Chad Hendricks and John W. Sloan Jr. It will premiere at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Florida Theatre.

Grind 2 Shine features performances and interviews from performers within the 904 area code, including DJ Bigga Rankin, Young Ca$h, Swordz, Whole Wheat Bread and Tough Junkie. …
