Panthers Too Small to Tackle Baker

Article excerpt

Baker County's big offensive line and powerful running attack proved too much for a smaller, less experienced Ridgeview football team Friday night as the Wildcats methodically pounded out a 30-0 victory on the Panthers' turf.

Wildcat running back Lucious Lee did most of the damage, gaining 138 yards on 16 carries. Baker County gained 327 yards on the ground, while Ridgeview had 147 total yards.

Panther Head Coach Tom MacPherson said the Wildcat size advantage was too much to overcome.

In the first half, the Panthers moved the ball into Wildcat territory four times but could not score.

Lee scored on a 5-yard run in the first quarter and a 2-yard plunge in the second period to give Baker a 14-0 halftime lead.

Ridgeview received the opening second half kick and moved to the midfield.

Wildcat running back Chaz Johns scored on a 5-yard run midway through the third, and then ran in for a two-point conversion and a 22-0 Baker lead.

Ridgeview began a promising drive at the start of the fourth with a 31-yard pass from quarterback Derek Hatcher to receiver Eugene Leckich, putting the Panthers at the Wildcat 40. A couple of runs from freshman quarterback Demario Kohn moved the ball to the 22-yard line. But on the next play, Baker linebacker Hank Farmer intercepted a pass, setting up a 35-yard Lee touchdown run and a 2-point conversion.

Despite the score, MacPherson said he believes his team is making progress. …
