A new St. Augustine charter school (right) is asking the local community for funds and materials to help bring its facility up to health, fire and safety codes. The Academy of Business and Leadership Education middle school was set to open today at its 7 Williams St. building, and is in the process of acquiring federal start-up funding. The not-for-profit school must spend money to enter the competitive bid process for that funding, according to a school news release. Principal Scott Beebe is hoping more in the community will step up and help out the school with the following items:
-- New laptop computers, software, CD-RW rewritable compact discs
-- Surge protectors
-- Digital Cameras
-- Office furniture and equipment
-- Office supplies
-- Art supplies
-- Picnic tables
-- First aid kits
-- Vacuum cleaner
-- Cleaning supplies
