Whitley Warriors ground out a 3-2 home win over Nottingham Lions last night to move back into second place in the English National League North table, (writes David Hall).

Karl Culley fired home the winner with a little over two minutes remaining on the clock.

Culley had given Warriors the lead in just 48 seconds before Chris Colgate looked to have ensured the visitors would go into the first break level when he hit a shot on the turn at 18.35.

However, parity would last only 23 seconds before Simon Leach restored home advantage.

After a goalless middle session, Colgate then levelled the game again on 46 minutes before Culley hit his dramatic winner to see the Warriors home.

Bryan Dunn made a surprise return to the Whitley line-up after being given the all-clear by doctors on Friday to resume playing and he felt the home side just about deserved the win.

"I thought we were the better side in the first and last periods," he said, "but we had to hang on a little in the middle session when he spent too much time in the penalty box. …
