Football: Car Lisle Manager Seeking Cup Tonic

CARLISLE boss Neil McDonald will be making changes for tonight's trip to Accrington Stanley, but believes his side will be strong enough to get through to the next round.

McDonald knows the early rounds of the Johnstone Paint Trophy do not rate as high as other games on the list of priorities, but fans have tasted the cup final atmosphere and the boss understands they want to do so again.

And after losing last year's game to Swansea and the game against Bristol City in 2003, the boss wants to go one step further.

"Obviously we concentrate on the league and the FA Cup then the Carling Cup so this is down the list of priorites," he said.

"But if we apply ourselves from the start, the first round, then we can get to the final again and that means financial gain for the football club."

After a shaky couple of weeks which has seen the side slip to the middle of League One, McDonald also believes the cup can help build momentum. …
