Gateshead moved up to 12th in the UniBond Premier Division following a comfortable 3-1 win over Radcliffe Borough last night, (writes Jeff Bowron).

It was the rejuvenated Tynesiders fourth consecutive win at the International Stadium and their sixth victory in eight games.

Former Newcastle United junior Nicky Deverdics scored his first goal for his hometown club while new signing Neil Tarrant headed home for the second consecutive game.

Top scorer David Southern, who could have had a hat-trick, bagged his ninth of the season before Radcliffe sub Andy Heald grabbed an 85th-minute consolation.

The strike denied Gateshead only their third clean sheet of the campaign and, but for inspired goalkeeping from Danny Hurst and wayward finishing, their biggest win.

Assistant manager Ian Bogie said: "Conceding a late goal took some of the gloss off a victory that should have been more emphatic.

"Our link-up play for the first two goals was excellent. …
