Consultation on plans for a major restoration project at Middlesbrough's Stewart Park is getting into gear this month with a series of special events.

An opportunity is also being offered to people living near the park to get involved in the consultation using cutting-edge design technology.

Initial sketch plans have already been drawn up. Ideas include restoring some of the estate buildings and walled gardens for new public uses, rebuilding the old conservatory and restoring historic features and monuments.

The consultation is central to developing a bid to the National Lottery next year for major funding.

On Wednesday, October 25, and Friday, October 27, the plans will be available to comment on at the park's car park. A display of historic maps and photographs of the park and the former Marton Hall, is also being put together.

A meeting to set up a Friends of Stewart Park support group will be held at 7pm on Thursday, October 26 at St Cuthbert's Church Hall in Stokesley Road, Marton. …
