Angling: Anglers Get Late Chance to Fish Kielder

Article excerpt

THE season at Northumbrian water premier fisheries has been extended to the end of next month.

Throughout November there will be no bag limits at Derwent, Grassholme, Kielder (bank only) and Fontburn reservoirs and the stocking of quality rainbow trout reared at Northumbrian Water's fish farms at Lartington and Fontburn will continue. Due to reduced daylight the cost of day ticket prices at these fisheries has been slashed by pounds 3 to pounds 14 (pounds 15 at Kielder). There will be no concessionary rates. Fishing and the lodges will be open daily from 9am to 3pm.

The season has also been extended at Scaling where ticket prices have also been reduced by pounds 6.50 to pounds 10.50. Whittle Dene and Hury will also stay on 'coarse' with day tickets pegged back by pounds 2 to pounds 4 per day (no concessions).

Don Coe, Northumbrian Water's operation manager said: "This is the first time that anglers have had the opportunity to fish Kielder later in the year.

"We expect to see some really nice grown-on rainbows in prime condition come to the net at Scaling where we will not continue to stock. November is a great month for pike fishing and we hope to see pike anglers having a go at the toothy critters that also reside in Scaling. Not that the spinning should be reserved just for the pike as fishing large lures such a silver Toby, deep and slow, will take trout from any of our wat ers."

Anglers are reminded that all brown trout must now be safely returned. Fishing is subject to the weather and the duty ranger may close any fishery at any time on safety grounds.

The reduced price tickets for Kielder are only available from the ticket machine at the South Abutment. 2006 Explorer season permits are not valid for the extended fishing period.

It was another excellent week's fishing at Derwent Reservoir with the rod average approaching four. …
