What Has Spectator Got to Hide about Reader Survey?

HOW ARE things at The Spectator since its new editorial regime took over at the beginning of the year? The magazine organised a Reader Survey back in June but mysteriously its results have still not seen the light of day. Insiders say the feedback was not as adulatory as new editor Matthew d'Ancona might have hoped.

Four months on and there's no mention of the survey, although readership participation was said to be one of its main objectives.

On 10 June the political weekly included a 20-point questionnaire asking readers for feedback on a range of topics including frequency of purchase, attitude to cover price, main reason for buying The Spectator, and any other helpful observations.

Participants were offered the chance to enter a draw to win a case of Ruinart champagne for taking the trouble to join in.

The point of the exercise was to test readers' opinions on changes that have occurred to the magazine since d'Ancona became editor in February. …
