Be sure of the sherry

NEVER sure which wine to drink with a meal? Hit the sherry instead.

L-Restaurant (2 Abingdon Road, W8, 020 7795 6969) is offering an autumn tasting menu where modern Iberian dishes - prawns in black rice, oxtail ravioli - are complemented by a list of Spanish fortified wines. The eight-course menu is [pounds sterling]40 per head and runs until the end of November.

Pan-Asian in a pan

THE Sri chain of designer Thai restaurants is having a facelift. The first establishment to emerge is the City's Sri Siam, a value-for-money dining spot that reopened this week as Hokkien Chan (82 London Wall, EC2, 020 7628 5772).

It has a new look - think dragon murals and silk screens - and a new pan-Asian menu. Drawing on the cuisines of China, Hong Kong and Singapore, the char barbecue sea bass in banana leaf ([pounds sterling]12.95) is proving an early favourite.
