IS green the new black?

Anyone listening to news headlines in the past few days would be forgiven for thinking politicians have stumbled across the newest trend - ecology.

There was a time when being called green was a derogatory term used to question someone's experience or ability to do a job.

But now we see the leaders of the three main political parties stumbling over themselves in the rush to be greener than their counterparts.

The intriguing prospect for the onlooker is how adept the three main protagonists will be when fighting to get past one another on the most political of political tightropes.

After all, no-one can deny we're hurtling towards making the most almighty mess of our planet. And yet it will take the bravest politician to kick tourists out of their aeroplane seats just when their appetite for cheap travel has been whetted.

Maybe it will be the mums on the 4x4 school run that have to take the pain so the rest can gain? …
