Life Term for Bullies Who Killed a Stranger

TWO BULLIES who battered a vulnerable stranger to death in a prolonged and merciless attack were jailed for life yesterday.

Lee Nevins and Mark Lang launched the savage violence after gatecrashing an all-night party at victim Lee Jobling's home on the Leam Lane Estate in Gateshead in April this year.

The pair - still at the flat the next morning after almost all the guests had left - began by taunting Mr Jobling, who walked with a limp and had memory problems following a bridge fall five years earlier, Newcastle Crown Court heard.

And fuelled by drink and drugs, their bullying escalated into all-out attack in which they repeatedly punched and kicked the 20-year-old aiming at his head, the court was told.

Paramedics who had to force entry into the flat found Mr Jobling lying unconscious on the floor, his face covered in blood.

He had suffered multiple injuries including fatal brain damage and died 19 days later.

Nevins, 23, of Leam Lane Estate and Lang, 24, of Harlow Green, Gateshead, had denied murder but were found guilty yesterday after a trial. …
