The female victim of a late night attack by a crazed man has told of her agony.

Catherine Armstrong took her dog out for a walk and was assaulted as she was going along West Percy Road in North Shields town centre.

A man approached, punched her in the face leaving her with a fractured left cheekbone and blood pouring down her face.

Mum-of-two Ms Armstrong, 32, of Coventry Gardens, Meadow Well, North Shields, spoke out as she fears other women may become victims.

She said: "I was walking along with the dog and a man came over. It looked like he was drunk.

"He punched me in the eye. I was totally shaken and very scared. Blood was pouring out of my eye and by the time I could lift my head up and look around he had disappeared.

"He should be punished for what he did and other women need to know about this for when they go out on their own. …
