ALAN PARDEW insisted today that Champions League football will be a realistic target at Upton Park if the proposed takeover of the club by a consortium headed by Icelandic businessman Eggert Magnusson takes place.

The West Ham manager met with Magnusson this week and revealed: "His vision of what he wants to do if he gets control of the club sounded exciting and I am sure it would be exciting to West Ham fans as well.

"It was a good meeting, positive and he had good feelings for the club.

"The two potential owners both have sound views, which is good because I want to take this club forward. I want us to play in the Champions League, although that is some way away at the moment.

"It has been proved at other clubs, particularly Aston Villa, that once the takeover process is finished the club can

push forward quickly. It's the uncertainty which is slightly holding us back at the moment."

Magnusson's talks have progressed smoothly through the due diligence process and a formal offer of around [pounds sterling]98million - which includes taking on [pounds sterling]23m in debt - could be put on the table today and accepted by Monday. …
