THE Arngrove Northern League enjoyed an good day in the second round of the FA Carlsberg Vase with all the sides against opponents from other leagues still in the competition.

There were three all-ANL ties which produced 22 goals though Newcastle Benfield Bay Plastics produced the best performance when they hit Dunston Federation for six. The goals flowed from Ian Graham (2), Mark Rasmussen (2), Richard Broadie and Shaun Bell before Adam Scope claimed a consolation.

West Auckland Town scored six at Bedlington Terriers who failed to reply. Matthew Moffat hit a hat-trick with Dale Jardine, David Richmond and Ian Maddison adding to the score.

There were nine goals at Filtrona Park where South Shields defeated Crook Town 5-4 after extra time. Justin Perry (3) and Simon Dolman (2) struck for the Mariners with Paul Salmons (2), Dan Lee and Chris Beckett replying.

Newcastle Blue Star beat Liver sedge who they defeated in the FA Cup. Chris Ogboke and Andrew Hay eased them to a 2-0 victory at the Wheatsheaf Ground.

Consett beat Garforth Town 3-0 with strikes from Michael Mackay, John Dickman and Michael Brown while Whitley Bay won 3-1 at Congleton Town with goals from Kevin Walton, Philip Bell and Lee Kerr.

An only goal on 73 minutes by Neil Campbell was sufficient for Durham City against Sheffield and Billingham Synthonia went through defeating Colne 3-2.

Shildon needed extra time before winning 4-3 at Nantwich. Adam Emson (2), Daniel Moore and Kevin Shoulder were their scorers.

In Division One, West Allotment Celtic gained a point holding second-top Sunderland Nissan to a 2-2 draw.

Morpeth Town won 5-0 at Nor thallerton Town with goals from Paul Willary (2), Stephen Young (2) and Kevin Henderson but despite scoring first through Andrew Johnson, Ashington lost 3-1 to Jarrow Roofing whose scorers were Paul Chow, Craig Nelson and Ibrahim Hassan. …
