This award will recognise achievement in excellent service or products, strong improvement or expansion, adaptation to new circumstances - something special which inspires admiration.

SMALL BUSINESS AWARD (Sponsor: Business Link)

This award is open to companies in the region which normally employ no more than 75 full-time staff and have a proven record of success.

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY AWARD (Sponsor: Northern Rock)

This award encourages and recognises companies that make a committed and pro-active contribution to the community. The judges will pay particular attention to evidence of imagination and commitment. The cash value of contributions will be a secondary consideration.

EXPORT AWARD

This award encourages and recognises companies that have generated substantial and sustained increases in export activity.

INTERNET & ICT AWARD

This award recognises companies and other organisations which have used web technology in an innovative, imaginative and practical way to enhance their business.

THE INNOVATION AWARD (Sponsor: HSBC)

This award aims to identify the company responsible for the best new product or service from the region in the calendar year 2005. Judges will also consider research and development and commercial potential.

ENVIRONMENT AWARD (Sponsor: Northumbrian Water)

To recognise outstanding performance in environmental management. The judges will award merit for issues including minimising the environmental impact of their operations and reducing the long-term environmental impact of the products through design, innovation and manufacturing techniques.

LEARNING, TRAINING AND SKILLS AWARD (Sponsors: Durham & Wearside - to be confirmed' Tees Valley - University of Teesside' Tyneside and Northumberland - Newcastle College' Regional Final - Learning & Skills Council)
