they want to be floored by support

The Bartram Trail Dance Team has all the tools to succeed - passion, teamwork, colorful outfits and a slough of awards to boot in the past few years. But none of that is possible if they don't have a floor to hold practice.

The team is trying to rally the community to help them purchase a new floor with a concert in January featuring well-known local performer and Bartram Trail alum Shawn Fisher. The concert is set for 7 to 10:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19. at the Bartram auditorium. A silent auction and "opportunity drawing" (read: you give us cash and we might give you some back) will also be part of the fun. Contact a dance team member or e-mail to get tickets.

Total amount needed for a new floor: $6,000. Cost of a ticket to see the show: $8.

Seeing the dance team reach their goal: priceless.

what color do you bleed?

Big time college football fans have the game running through their veins. The Blood Alliance/Blood Center of the St. Johns is hoping to tap into that passion through some special pigskin-themed blood drives the week of Nov. 20-25.

Leading up to the annual grudge match between Florida and Florida State on Nov. 25, fans of the two schools can duke it out in the blood donation program called "What Color Do You Bleed?" Donors who pledge support for one of the schools will receive a special T-shirt after they've provided a pint to help health and hospital agencies in need in St. Johns County.

"We hope the excitement of the game encourages potential blood donors to give," said Center Manager Sandy Janson in a news release about the program.

The Blood Mobile will be on hand at several locations in the county throughout the week, including a stop from noon to 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24 at the St. Johns Sun and Post Net store in Plantation Plaza, 2750 Race Track Road (Publix shopping center).

So why not show up and prove that your blood runs blue and orange or garnet and gold?
