House prices in the North-east rose by 2.9% in October, according to the latest figures from the Land Registry.

The figure compares with 1.2% across England and Wales, highlighting the region's robust property market.

Middlesbrough-based estate agent Michael Poole said that it was still very much a buyer's market in the North-east.

He reiterated last month's comments, that good deals for buyers were still very much there to be done.

He said: "There are a lot of houses for sale in the region, with lots of choice for buyers, making it a good market to be in.

"I don't think the area has seen any massive increase in house prices, but lots of transactions are taking place.

"We are in a relatively active market here, even at this time of the year, with lots of transactions still taking place in the run-up to Christmas."

Land Registry figures show house-price inflation rose to a 17-month high in October, with prices rising at their highest rate since spring 2005. …
