The glory days of a non-league football club are being relived in a book about its exploits.

Two Wins from Wembley tells the amazing story of Blyth Spartans' FA Cup run in 1977-78.

It has been written by local author Andrew Griffin, published by Blyth Valley Arts and Leisure and is launched next Wednesday.

The 140-page book is packed with photographs and memories of the 11-match run from August, 1977 to February, 1978, which saw the team on the verge of a place in the last eight of the famous competition. The final match, in the fifth round against Wrexham, was at St James' Park in front of 42,000 fans.

The replay followed a Fifth Round tie at Wrexham with Blyth leading 1-0. But with Spartans just seconds away from a home quarter-final tie with Arsenal, the Welshmen were awarded a corner.

Spartans successfully defended it, but the referee ordered a re-take because the corner flag had fallen over as the ball was played in. …
