Middlesbrough wins top rating for social care

PEOPLE are getting better help at staying in their own homes in a Teesside borough, national inspectors have found.

Middlesbrough Council has risen from two to the top ranked "excellent" three stars in the Commission for Social Care Inspection ratings of adult social care provision.

The body found the authority's social care department serves "most" people well with an "excellent" capacity to improve.

However the fortunes across Teesside were mixed with Redcar and Cleveland falling from three to two - "good" - Stockton and Hartlepool remaining on two stars, while Darlington rose from two to three.

Jan Douglas, executive director of social care, added: "It is equally good to see CSCI say there are good prospects for further improvement.

"In years to come Middlesbrough, like many other places, will have more people than ever needing support to maintain their independence and quality of life. …
