Defoe Is in Majestic Form against the Kings

Darius defoe hit a career-high 31 points as Newcastle Eagles crushed the City of Edinburgh Kings 109-57 to set up what will effectively be a BBL Trophy quarter-final with Scottish Rocks on Friday, (writes Paul Nilsen).

The gap in class between the Eagles and City Kings was vast despite the absence of TJ Walker and Jeremy Hyatt due to injury, further questioning the wisdom of the BBL in having the minnows in the competition at all. Not that this worried the all-dunking Defoe, who is continuing to show himself as a real talent for the Springfield Honda-backed club.

The forward was certainly thrilled to pass a landmark.

He said: "It is exciting to set a new level and get 31 points.

"However, it was more about getting a win as a team and not picking up any more injuries, which is what we achieved."
