Robber Anthony Lewis already stood out from the crowd with his striking sunglasses, skinny frame and crooked teeth.

But when the bungler staged a knife-point mugging soon after leaving a local police station his chances of success were slimmer than his build.

Officers quickly recognised the telltale description of the stranger who had pulled a flick-knife and ordered a boy to hand over his mobile.

Lewis was arrested at his home in Glynfellis, Leam Lane, Gateshead.

His victim, 15, as well as two pals easily picked him out on identification parades, Newcastle Crown Court heard.

And now the 26-year-old, father-of-two is beginning a three year jail sentence after admitting robbery and possessing a knife.

"The defendant had an appearance that was unusual," said Shaun Routledge, prosecuting. He was thin, had crooked teeth, a baseball cap and distinctive sunglasses.

"He had earlier had to sign on at Gateshead Police Station in relation to other matters and when the description got to the officer on the front desk, he put two and two together. …
