Durham and Cleveland's county men's team proved their talent and strength in depth with victory in Group 3B of the LTA's annual Winter County Cup Championships.

They were undefeated over the three days of singles and doubles competition, beating Sussex and Derbyshire 6-3 and West of Scotland 7-2.

Durham and Cleveland's ladies finished third in Group 4A.

BEN Harmison has won Durham's most promising young player award.

The younger brother of England star Steve Harmison won the award two years ago, and has since progressed from Durham's Academy to the first team.

He said: "I'm proud that my hard work has paid off. Making my first class debut was a brilliant experience and I've got a taste for it so I'll be pushing for a permanent place next season."

Head coach Martyn Moxon said: "Ben thoroughly deserves to receive this award. There was plenty of competition in the squad. Ben has shown a great deal of dedication and commitment. …
