Tottenham Hotspur 3

Dinamo Bucharest 1

TOTTENHAM boss Martin Jol was delighted with the attitude of his players last night in overcoming Dinamo Bucharest, who looked like they were on "vacation" according to their coach.

The Romanian players brought their wives and girlfriends to London for the Uefa Cup tie, a clash they needed to win to top Group B and avoid teams dropping out of the Champions League in the last 32.

Spurs only needed a point to secure an easier path into the latter stages of the competition, but never looked like settling for that and secured a 3-1 win.

Dimitar Berbatov opened the scoring after 17 minutes, then Jermain Defoe struck either side of half-time to seal the points and maintain Spurs' 100% record in the competition this season.

Berbatov has previously stated he wants to emulate Jurgen Klinsmann's impact at White Hart Lane, but he may be able to succeed where the German failed if he helps bring silverware to the club.

It was the Bulgarian's 10th goal of the season and his fifth in the Uefa Cup, the trophy Spurs won in 1972 and 1984.

"You have to give our boys a bit of credit, they are a good team and we made them look average," said Dutchman Jol.

"I know the feeling they've got because they are qualified - to be 100% motivated is not easy.

"But it's our history, and the crowd - if they don't perform they are not professional.

"It's also about momentum, and we're doing better and better."

Berbatov intercepted a throw from Dinamo goalkeeper Uladzimir Hayeu to lash in the opener and reach double figures for the season.

Defoe's cool finishes either side of the interval meant much of the second half was not played at full pace and Berbatov could have added to the visitors' embarrassment but fired just wide shortly after Defoe's second.

Hayeu was forced to punch Zokora's long-range drive away just after the hour, while Huddlestone fired over from a similar position soon after. …
