Kimberley Baylin knows exactly what she wants and she knows how to get it.

The successful businesswoman owns three hair salons in Teesside and has big plans to make more changes in the New Year.

Sarah Dale reports.

When Kimberley Baylin was at school, she had no ambitions to either own her own business or become a hairdresser.

But that all changed when the glamorous lifestyle of a hairdresser lured her with its charms.

After Kimberley completed her three years' training at Saks in Middlesbrough, she worked in a hair salon before moving to Pakistan for a year where her husband Nigel worked as an electrical engineer.

On their return to the UK Kimberley got a job for Goldwells as a technical manager.

"I travelled all over the UK, visiting three salons a day," says the 36-year-old from Stokesley.

"I loved what I was doing. I was based in Mayfair in London and met some of the best hairdressers.

"It was a glamorous life.

"But I was also on the road a lot and I wasn't seeing Nigel."

Eventually the travelling took its toll and she decided to move back to Stokesley, with her husband, where she took a job in a hair salon for "pocket money".

"I knew I had the skills to do it myself and run my own salon and I had so many ideas," says Kimberley.

"A room became available in Chapters Hotel which I rented for a year.

"Then I got premises on the ground floor - and now I've got 32 staff!"

In September 2000, Kimberley opened her first Morgan Hair salon in Stokesley. Two years later, she opened a second one in Marton at Stokesley Road. Then two years later she opened her third salon in Ingleby Barwick.

"My objective was never to have money stacked up in the bank," says Kimberley.

"I knew I had lots to offer. I wanted a lifestyle that I could pick what I did and when and where I did it. …
