There is one great title so far for the PlayStation 3. Resistance: Fall of Man not only sounds good on paper -- next generation graphics, first-person shooter, made by the same people responsible for the wonderful Ratchet and Clank series -- it plays as well as it looks.

WHAT THEY'RE SELLING: From Insomniac Games -- "July 11, 1951: In Resistance: Fall of Man, US and British forces band together in a last-ditch effort to save England from a horrific scourge -- the Chimera."

WHAT WE'RE TELLING: Maybe later we can team up and end another English scourge ... tooth decay.

THE NUT GRAPH: The storyline is an alternate reality set in 1951. An alien race called the Chimera has conquered all of Russia and most of Europe in a decades-long battle (World War II never happened, although some battle scenes have a Saving Private Ryan feel to them).

What makes it different is the offbeat weaponry. In addition to regular assault rifles and frag grenades there are also alien weapons, minelayers, ricocheting ammunition and spikey hedgehog grenades and mines. …
