A Teesside school is hoping it will be lifted out of special measures in the spring after Government inspectors said progress is being made.

On the latest monitoring visit to Unity City Academy in East Middlesbrough, Ofsted inspectors said not enough progress has been made to remove special measures from the school immediately.

But they said satisfactory progress had been made since the previous monitoring visit in February.

In a letter to principal Bob Dore, inspector Andrew Bennett said good progress had been made in improving the attitudes and behaviour of the pupils.

Measures to improve attendance were described as having been "impressively effective" and had improved by 10% since the last monitoring visit.

Good progress had also been made in the leadership of the school, now led by chief executive David Triggs and Mr Dore, who was appointed principal in September.
