Newcastle Eagles finished off the year in style after romping to a 93-59 success against lowly Worcester Wolves to leave player-coach Fab Flournoy with plenty to be hopeful for in 2007.

In his pre-game speech, Flournoy admitted that his pre-Christmas prediction of things getting rather ugly for the club before it got much better had come true ( on both fronts.

Things have certainly become ugly, particularly in the wake of the ongoing Jeremy Hyatt saga, but Flournoy was adamant he could also sense a change for the better.

At that stage there might have been some doubters but, after a vibrant and refreshing display, albeit against a poor side, Flournoy's prediction that a trophy will be forthcoming this season despite recent problems had a more realistic feel.

"When we reflect on 2006 it might have turned out a little bittersweet as there were highs and lows but mainly highs. It seems like an eternity since we won those four trophies earlier in the year," said Flournoy. …
