Wasps Coach Blasts 'Disgraceful' Defence

COACH Shaun Edwards blasted his players' "disgraceful" defending as Wasps' title chances went down the plug-hole at Bath yesterday.

Wasps - 13-0 behind at one point in monsoon conditions - were 16-13 ahead early in the second half before tries from Bath wing Joe Maddock and super-sub Shaun Berne saw relegationthreatened Bath secure a 30-19 triumph.

Edwards said: "Some of our defending on the left side was disgraceful and we have to work together to rectify those errors."

Rugby director Ian McGeechan was no happier. He said: "We got ourselves into a winning position and then blew it tactically. I thought we had control of the game with a front five that was dominant but we missed a couple of opportunities and gave Bath a chance to come back.

"We got into the lead but then stopped taking them on up front. We loosened the game up and played into their hands."

Fly-half Dave Walder helped Wasps kick their way back into the game, though the London side also picked up a penalty try after Bath infringed on their own line. …
