Star Cars Switch into Overdrive This Year

Steve Hughes looks at some of the newcomers for 2007

The record number of new cars launches that we saw last year is now all set to switch into overdrive for 2007.

The A-Z of newcomers begins with a new roadster from specialist car company AC that is due to arrive in time for summer with a likely price tag of about pounds 13,000.

And this is what you can expect from the other car companies in the first of our two part look at what's in store in the coming months. The second part of our preview of 2007 looking at what is coming from the likes of Toyota, Renault, Vauxhall and Volkswagen ( to name but a few ( will be available next week.

Alfa will be weighing in with its new 149 compact coupe to do battle against the likes of the Focus and Golf, and this spring there will also be a Spider version of the stylish Brera costing from about pounds 24,000

Aston Martin will give us the roadster V8 Vantage in addition to the super fast DBRS9.

Audi will launch the all-new A5 to rival BMW's 6 Series, the new S3 hot hatchback and the pounds 76,500 R8 super car plus a compact version of the Q7 to be called the Q5 and the new A4 saloon. BMW will be busy with the new coupe cabriolet version of the 3 Series with its first-ever folding electric steel roof.

There will be the all-new X5 SUV, the 1 Series three-door, cabriolet and high-performance 135ti models plus a new 400bhp V8-powered M3.

Cadillac will give us the SRX seven-seat crossover costing around pounds 30,000 and Chevrolet will bring in the Ultra to replace the Lacetti.

Citroen will introduce its new five-seat C4 Picasso in March and the C-Crosser in September, which will be the French firm's first SUV and is likely to cost from about pounds 17,000 to pounds 20,000.

Chrysler will introduce the Sebring to tackle Ford's all-conquering Mondeo costing from about pounds 14,000, while Daihatsu will update the Charade and add a new mini MPV called the Coo.

Fiat will show us the definitive version of its new 500 city car that will be made in Poland and there will also be the important new Bravo plus revisions to the Panda. …
