Benitez Backs Kuyt's Return

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has welcomed Dirk Kuyt's return to the scoresheet, but insists the Dutch striker has nothing left to prove at Anfield.

Kuyt took his Reds tally to seven with a fine strike in the New Year's Day win over Bolton but Benitez believes he has already proved that he offers much more than just goals.

Benitez said: "When we were playing with Peter Crouch and Kuyt and winning five in a row, people were talking about the understanding. Then we played Bellamy and people said he was fantastic.

"Maybe Kuyt keeps the other player's ability to play well. Because he is working so hard, the others can just play offensive football and think about scoring goals.

"Kuyt is a player who can score goals and give a lot of assists and he is working really hard for the team.

"I am really pleased for him. For me it is not a problem who scores."

Benitez intends to make changes for this evening's FA Cup third-round clash with Arsenal but insists he will still name a strong side as they start the defence of the trophy they won in a thrilling final against West Ham last season. …
