Byline: Non League Round-up

Billingham Town got off the hook when their game at Jarrow Roofing was abandoned on 59 minutes with the title-chasers trailing 4-2.

Town had leaked three goals in eight minutes before the break to go in 4-1 down at half-time and, although they had come out fighting and pulled one back early in the second half, the game looked beyond them.

But they will live to fight another day after the lights on one side of the pitch went out and when Roofing officials tackled the fusebox but failed to kick them back into life referee Paul Brown called it a day.

Town had threatened early on and Andy Harbron put a header against the bar but Roofing, direct at the best of times, soon began to use the wind to hammer long balls into the Town box and they went ahead on 16 minutes through Hodgson.

Town broke out to level soon after as David Abel nodded home from a corner but Roofing had them on the back foot with a barrage into the box.

The pressure told on 37 minutes as Chow got behind the defence to a long ball forward and cracked home. Then Nelson chased another hefty hoof to drill home and, on the stroke of half-time, Hodgson scored a fourth.

Town - who have made a habit of second half revivals - grabbed a life-line on 55 minutes when Michael Jameson netted with a spectacular 35-yard wind-assisted shot and were starting to take control when the lights went out.

They are now eight points adrift of Nissan - 1-0 winners over Blue Star - but have two games in hand. …
