A paranoid schizo-phrenic who killed two friends in frenzied attacks was not a threat, according to a report into his care under mental health services.

Killer Sean Crone, pictured, launched two separate and deadly attacks on Ian Lawson, 25, and Simon Richardson, 27, in Sunderland in October 2003, days after his mother raised concerns about his mental health.

Drug-user Crone, 28, repeatedly slashed the throat of best friend Mr Richardson with a disposable razor blade less than two hours after killing Mr Lawson with a collection of kitchen knives.

Just days before the killing, Crone, of Rhodesia Road, Red House estate, Sunderland, had been referred to the South of Tyne & Wearside Mental Health Trust and was waiting for an appointment.

But a report into Crone's care from mental health services in the region, released by the North East Strategic Health Authority today, concludes his violent actions could not have been foreseen or prevented. …
