Wanted: New Mates (No Racists, Thanks); Big Brother Auditions on Way to the North-East

AS the row surrounding racism in the Celebrity Big Brother house continues to rage, the search for a new set of housemates for the non-celebrity version of the show comes to the North-East this weekend.

Hundreds of would-be celebrities are expected to turn up for the Big Brother 8 auditions in Newcastle tomorrow and on Monday.

North-East contestants have enjoyed some success in the competition in the past with Anthony Hutton, 24, from Consett, County Durham, winning pounds 50,000 for winning BB6.

Michelle Bass, 26, from Dinnington, Newcastle, and Narinder Kaur, 34, from Killingworth, North Tyneside, both enjoyed their time in the spotlight, and Jonny Regan, 34, from Trimdon Grange, County Durham, was the runner-up in BB3.

The next instalment of the reality television show is due to be screened in the summer.

BB8 executive producer Rebecca De Young, who has been involved in some capacity in every non-celebrity Big Brother to date, said yesterday the show was as popular as ever. …
